punctuation marks are the squiggly things performing as road signs in reading english text that makes it necessary to know how to use them i realize some are confusing which is why i suggest reviewing what you learned in school or didn't learn recall the purposes of commas periods quotation marks question marks exclamation points dashes and hyphens ellipses and parentheses each has a specific purpose each directs the reader in its own way have fun
