Dit / Dot / Pip / Decimal / Period / Full Stop…

Whatever you call it, that little dot at the end of a sentence (and myriad other places) can make loads of trouble for writers. Let's clear up a few things. In the following sentences, place the dot/decimal/pip/period in the place that counts. There will be some places where you have a choice. Make it yours! Then check the Answers to see whether we agree or not. (My disagreement doesn't always make yours wrong.)

1. The history book related tales of the U S S R and the U S A back to 1500 B C

2. M. and Mrs J D Anderson lived at 2201 Forest Ave in Chicago, IL

3. Charles Smith, MD, earned a PhD in English Lit as well as medicine

4. Please send CARE packages to overseas NATO countries

5. The closet measured 4 ft 5 in x 5 ft even, and cost $257 85 to rebuild
